Cappadocia Hosted 1 Million 412 Thousand Visitors in the First Half of the Year; Cappadocia, which broke the record of all years with the number of visitors in 2019 and experienced calm in 2020 and 2021, when the fight against the new type of coronavirus (Kovid-19) was carried out, regained the intensity that tourism professionals longed for this year.
According to Nevşehir Culture and Tourism Directorate data, 88 thousand 677 people visited the museums and ruins in the region in January, 83 thousand 432 in February, 133 thousand 166 in March, 247 thousand 459 in April, 477 thousand 757 in May and 381 thousand 761 people in June.

The most visited in the region was Zelve Ruins with 397 thousand 958 people. Goreme Open Air Museum, which is in the second place, was visited by 395,771 tourists, while Kaymaklı Underground City, which is in the third place, was visited by 118,103 tourists.
Museums and ruins in the region were 672 thousand 730 in the same period of 2016, 908 thousand 294 in 2017, 1 million 235 thousand 355 in 2018, 1 million 562 thousand 617 in 2019, 339 thousand 685 in 2020, 483 thousand in 2021. 915 domestic and foreign tourists visited.

“I think it will be a good year”
Mustafa Durmaz, Head of Göreme Tourism Development Cooperative, told Anadolu Agency (AA) that during the 2022 tourism season, tourists from all over the world come to Cappadocia as well as local guests.
Emphasizing that they expect the intensity in the region to continue in the next period, Durmaz said:
“2019 was a year when tourism in Turkey and Cappadocia peaked. With the return to normal this year after the epidemic, the activity increased again. It is seen that 2022 will approach 2019 in terms of the number of visitors. I think it will be a good year. This year there is a lot of country diversity. Social media It is a fast advertising tool. There is a density in the region. We see a rapidly developing Cappadocia tourism.”
